Update Update Update!
Sorry people. It's almost 2 wks since the last update. So what have we or little Matthew been up to these days?
He has been sleeping at 10pm, instead of the usual 9pm! This makes me very tired and sometimes I end up sleeping before he sleeps. Sleeping a little later means that he wakes up a little later, at 7am. For the past few days, he wakes up only at 7+am, which also means that Papa and Mama also wakes up a little later.
He talks ALL DAY, except when he's watching TV, sleeping or eating something! my goodness, he always seems to have something to say! He speaks in mandarin and can string words into meaningful sentences. Sometimes he really catches us by surprise, the things he says. His English is not too bad, except that he still hasn't learned to string words into sentences, but he has learned some bigger / multi-syllabus words like Rectangle, Triangle.
He loves to count! He can now count to ten without much help in both languages. He would attempt to count up to twenty, skipping some numbers along the way, but for a 18-month-old toddler, I think he is doing very well now.
He sings too! Twinkle twinkle little star. ABC and some chinese er ge.
He eats prunes (those Del Monte / Sunsweet types), dried apricots, sultanas and he loves them! Other than cheese, these are the things he would ask for... He can self-feed, BUT he thinks eating with his hands / fingers are faster. One good example was our dinner at Mayim (West Mall). He had noodles for dinner. Mike was feeding him with chopsticks and a spoon. But the moment he saw the bowl with the noodles, he demanded that he fed himself. WITH HIS HANDS! gosh, imagine all the soup that dripped down his fingers, his arms. I was busy wiping him up... Hahaha...
He has quite a good memory. He remembers places. Like after Marsden had their term break, Matthew recognised the place when we went back for his first swim class of the new term. He also remembered Bt Timah Plaza where his paediatrician is. We went there for his DPT booster yesterday. When we asked him if he wanted to see Dr Ong, he said "Bu Yao. Hui Jia (Don't want. Go Home)". As I turned into the car park, he started saying "Hui Jia" and kept saying those two words in a voice that was almost crying. The moment I parked the car, stopped and turned off the engine, he burst into tears!
He hates doctors! All kinds of doctors! He cried and cried and cried the whole time we were in Dr Ong's room and only stopped when we got out and he played with the toys. It was the same at KKH and NUH! So as far as possible, we will avoid clinics, hospitals and doctors! :p
He's toilet-trained! Of course, only in the day. I'm wondering now if we have stocked up too many packs of Huggies diapers.. Hahaha... We still diaper him when we go out, but for short trips to the market etc, we just bring along plastic bags. He still can't hold his pee for a very long time, so we just get him to pee into the bags.
Finally, last but not least... Matthew has been telling us that he wants a mei mei and he got his wish. Yes, I'm now 15 weeks pregnant and it's a girl! :) My expected due date is 7 March 2007, just 10 days after Matthew's 2nd birthday. Hopefully we get to celebrate his 2nd birthday before number 2 pops. By the way, what a coincidence that the lunar date is the same for both of them.
