Yummy yogurt
I bought Yoplait Petit Miam fromage frais for kids at Matthew's birthday party, actually meant to give it to the toddlers who were at the party, but I totally forgotten about it. So the next day, we gave some yogurt to Matthew... This was what happened (in pictorial)...

Mama FINALLY!
Finally, Matthew started to say "Mama" today, but it was a whole string of mamamamama... i think he has figured the M sound, so he's having fun saying them. He still has not related me to the word "Mama". Hahahaha...

Matthew's first steps
Matthew took his first independent steps yesterday morning and Papa, Mama were not there to witness it. Nobody could tell us how and what actually happened, but I guess that doesn't matter.

Matthew knows that we are all excited about his walking. He would walk to and fro between me and Mike and laughing. And he's dancing, stamping his feet, clapping his hands, shaking his bum!

Megan's maiden bike ride
Finally, Megan could make it for our cycling adventure at East Coast Park today. She was not too well, as her left eye was slightly swollen. Tien Huat (Matthew's uncle fish fish) was down with flu. Nonetheless we all had fun!

We had breakfast at MacDonalds where Matthew had his Heinz Apple Cinnamon Porridge, his first time trying plain jar food. He did not really like it, so in the end we used the last few spoonfuls as a spread on his hotcake. He was determined to feed himself, so we helped him and he successfully used a fork to feed himself some hotcake. Needless to say, he enjoyed his hotcake very much.

Matthew obviously recognised East Coast Park and knew exactly which direction to go! There is this alley that leads from MacDonalds to the beach area. He struggled to get down and walked towards the alley. He loves to look at the sea, the sky and the ships in the water. So while we waited for Megan, Chris and Tien Huat, we walked along, enjoying the morning breeze and the scenery.

Megan finally came and we got ourselves into our rented bikes. So along we went. It was Megan's maiden ride on the bicycle. She enjoyed herself very much. Though her first time, she was determined to take control of the bike, "brushing" her Papa's hands off the handles!

Within just merely 5 minutes into the ride, Matthew struggled to get out. At first we did not know why. Chris thought that it might be because he wanted to do his business. True enough, he wanted to poo! After that, it was pure fun! We stopped at Bedok Jetty for a break and watched people fished. The fishes readily hooked on and there were lots of jumping fish. This silly mommy forgot to swish out the camera to take some photos of the kiddos looking at the fishes. Both Matthew and Megan were fascinated by the jumping fishes. Megan went, "Fish jump jump!"

We then made our way to Changi Sailing Club and took another break. Both Matthew and Megan came down from the bike for a walk walk to stretch their legs. They had bananas and we continued on our ride. We made another stop for some cold drink and Chris had an ice cream. The ice cream auntie gave both Matthew and Megan a piece of wafer each and they enjoyed their treat.

So fun.. We must go again!

West Coast Park - Then & Now
Nothing to do on the day after Matthew's birthday, we decided to go to our favourite haunt, West Coast Park. Now that Matthew is old enough, we brought him to the playground. At first he hesitated walking in the sand. It just did not feel right to him. But with so many kids playing, he could not resist the temptation and gave in. After that, it was so difficult to get him away from the playground. We did not take any photos of him playing in the playground, because Papa and Mama were busy climbing and crawling around with him. But here's a comparison of Matthew at West Coast Park in September 2005 and now, on the see-saw and on the rock rock horse.

ENT visit & Passport
Today Matthew went for his ABR test at NUH ENT specialist clinic. His hearing is still the same as 6 months ago which is good news and the doctor was quite pleased that he has started babbling words. So we shall see Dr Lynne Lin in 6 months' time and she wants to see how many words he can speak by then. If all go well, the next ABR test would be next year.

After our ENT visit, we had something to eat at GreenHouse Cafe at NUH Kent Ridge Wing, as it was Matthew's lunch time. Matthew finished his fish corn porridge quickly. I had a very very lousy mushroom soup, definitely not worth the $3.80. Here's Matthew taking a break on the armchair.

We went to ICA at Lavendar to collect Mike and Matthew's new passports. Can you believe they actualy accepted this photo of our dear Matthew!?

We then decided to take Matthew for a short train ride to Bugis, so that Mike could take his lunch in air-con comfort. The weather these few weeks has been HOT HOT HOT. Matthew had fun in the train and even played peek-a-boo!

1 year assessment!
We brought Matthew to Dr Ong's clinic for his first year assessment last Saturday. At the clinic, he had fun on the slide again. He sat on the rubber lion toy and rode on it like a car - vroom vroom, shaking it side to side.

He has put on 0.5kg since the last assessment. He's now 10.1kg, in the 75% percentile. His head circumference 48cm, height 78cm, in the 90% percentile. Big boy now. His soft spot on his head has also closed up.

After that, we went to Iggy's party. We were the first there. Then Yi Xuan and Cayden came with their Daddies and Mummies. Iggy, steady pom pi pi, can walk so well, except that Iggy's mummy said that he bulldozed his way round. We met Cherylin at the car park when we were just leaving to go to DownTown East. Iggy's mummy, where's your blog update? Photos photos photos.

At DownTown East, we had fun in the pool. Here's one of Mike and Matthew waiting for Megan Jie Jie to arrive.

Also waiting for photos from Chris. So watch this space, more photos coming up...

Countdown to Perth Trip! 4 weeks to go!
We are going to Perth on 1 April 2006. Countdown begins now! 4 weeks to go!

So exciting. New experience for all three of us. For Mike and myself, it's first time that we are travelling threesome. Well, for the past years, it was always only two of us (other than the trip to Tasmania with Su Hock and Angeline). This time is different. We have Matthew and we would be travelling with Chris, Tianfa and Megan! For Matthew, no need to say, it would be all his first time. His fascination with aeroplanes in the sky, up close and personal and flying in it!

I'll write more the next time about the trip. so exciting!!!

Big Boy or not...
On Monday night, our little boy decided that he was all grown up. First he pointed to his cot and crawled towards it, indicating that he wanted to go into the cot. Then he made himself comfortable in the cot with his bolster and pillow.

I stood by his cot and wanted to pat him to sleep. I pat him, he pushed my hand away and pat himself. I tried that again, he pushed my hand away yet again. Then he got up and pushed me away from his cot. So I walked to the other side of the cot. Again, he pushed me away. I sat on my bed and watched what he was up to.

He laid down comfortably in the cot and pat himself and sang his sleeping lullaby. Finally no more sound, he did not stir, eyes closed. I thought, "Wah, our little boy has grown up, no need mama to pat him to sleep." So I left the room.

Within 5 minutes, I heard cries from the bedroom. I went in, saw him standing up and wanted me to carry. I carried him, he pointed to my bed. Well, in the end, I still pat him to sleep.

Big Boy or not.... no hurry dear, take your time!

Birthday Party
Matthew: My first birthday party was held on 25 February 2006, at my humble home. I invited lots of people, my grandparents, grand uncles, grand aunts, uncles, aunts, Megan, Yan Ting etc etc. Mommy ordered a Sesame Street fruit cake from Sweet Secrets and a big Winnie the Pooh agar agar. She also ordered catering from Fus'zin Palate for a simple tea reception. I received lots of presents and angbows. Thank you everybody! See ya again!

Mama: Here are some photos to share...

Simple deco in the house for the birthday boy. We put this up the night before. When he crawled into the living room in the morning, he was excited to see the banner.

Matthew wanted to be in his high chair when he saw the cake and agar agar and decided that they could be eaten. After we put him in the high chair, Mike hid behind the camera and I moved away, he glanced around, couldn't find us and burst into tears!

Matthew was curious with everybody singing Happy Birthday song. He looked around, puzzled.

The agar agar came with a candle as well, so Matthew had two candles to blow. Of course, he still doesn't know how to blow, so Papa and Mama blew the candles on his behalf.

Mike and Matthew opening his birthday presents the next day. Lots of presents. A Funtime Alphabet Pot, a Winnie the Pooh towel, a Funtime pull-along Ellie the Elephant, a Funtime Rainbow Ball, a Funtime Brick Truck, a Musical Circus Pop Onz set, a sliding car set, a wooden train set, Peek-a-Block Gobble & Go Hippo and a baby basketball set. Papa and Mama bought a bath toy set for Matthew to play during his bath time and a Winnie the Pooh Mega Bloks Train set.
